On Monday, the restarted trial over the 2012 Smiljkovci killings, i.e. the Monster case, was postponed for 14 March. The decision was made because the case charging Sami Luta, one of the four persons that received a life sentence with the initial verdict, hasn’t been obtained. Judge Ognen Stavrev runs the trial, while Naum Naumovski represents the Prosecutor’s Office for Organised Crime. The defence, as lawyer Naser Raufi said, thinks the Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) will get involved because there are conversations. “The SPO definitely has the jurisdiction,” he pointed out. The SPO still hasn’t made a decision whether it will request to take over the case. The decision is expected to be made in several months. The institution headed by Katica Janeva told Nova that the adoption of the witness protection law was key to its work. The case concerns the murder of Kire Trickovski, Filip Slavkovski, Cvetanco Ackovski, Aleksandar Nakjevski and Borce Stefanovski, which were killed on 12 April 2012.
